Debrief - the move

April 27th, 2007

OMG - I am near shaking as I write this, as it will force me to recall memories that I would rather file away in the never to be remembered box.

The move was a NIGHTMARE.

It all began on Monday. I called the RE to confirm everything. "Oh yes, so you will be moving in on Thursday." Um, no, tomorrow. "Oh but the new carpet will be going in tomorrow." No, the new carpet was supposed to be going in today, so that we could move in tomorrow. "Oh, well I’ll just give the owner a call to find out what is going on."

So in the meantime, I am waiting for her call and having a heart attack, and Charley is breaking my only pair of glasses. So I am now having a heart attack, but at least I can’t see what is happening. The phone rings, the carpet is going in on Tuesday morning, and will be ready for us to move in Tuesday lunch time. Great.

So it’s still Monday and I head out to the shops to get the bank cheque for the bond, and deal with Miss I Don’t Know What I Am Doing, then buy myself some yoghurt for lunch, which as soon as I get in car proceeds to spill absolutely everywhere. So I am lunchless, blind, recovering from a heart attack when my sister shows up - with coffee - thank god!! I take a sip - no sugar. All my sugar is packed. I cry.

So the next day is moving day and I drop Charley at pre school and Rich and I go to sign the lease. The RE gives us two seemingly broken buzzers to our garages, and just shrugs her shoulders - just wait and see if they work. Luckily for her we got them to work and start moving our stuff - the removalists are due at 12, so we wanted to get started early and I had to go to the optometrist to get some new glasses at 3:30. 2pm came, and they still weren’t there, so I called them to see where they were. Oh, they had booked it wrong - oops. But never mind, they were sending someone who would be there in half an hour. Great.

3:30 I am driving out to go the optometrists and I see them show up. Only 3.5 hours late. I get back and they are still loading boxes, so I continue to do my car loads. On my return to the new place during my last load before I go to get Charley, I walk in to a lounge room FILLED with boxes. I panic. There is no way that Charley can be here tonight - they hadn’t even brought over the furniture and it was already 6 o’clock. So I make an emergency call to the MIL, who is on her way to pick her up.

Oh there is just so much more - including arguments over the layout of the furniture, me ordering way too much Maccas and realising that there would be no way to get it out to the car and then having an argument with a Maccas chick about getting someone to help me, losing my keys that has everything on them including work keys (still haven’t found them!) and of course the ultimate - it POURED rain the whole time, so my furniture smells a little damp.

And to top it off, I am missing my broadband like nothing else - have to wait till Tuesday for it to come back - welcome to slow time. :)

Oh no!! Souds like things can only get better for you. I hope that you settle in soon, that your furniture dries out and you can make Charley feel at home :)
