What are the odds…

July 25th, 2007

When I was pregnant with Charley I never considered that I would have a premmie baby. But then I got PE and she was born at 29 weeks. But even after that, beyond the NICU I never really met anyone else who had a premmie.

And then I started mumspace and met so many other women who have had premmie babies. And then I got a phone call this morning - my husband’s best friend, who was his best "woman" at our wedding just had a 27-weeker at Royal North Shore Hospital - the same hospital where I had Charley - what are the odds? He is doing really well - well as well as can be expected, and Daria is really upbeat. You kind of have to be in that situation. I’m going to spend the day with her next Wednesday to show her the ropes.

But right now I’m off to Moment By Moment to get him some clothes he can wear - welcome to the world little one. :)

It seems to be the way with Mums - I had a similar thing with PND - once I started talking about it, so many other Mums had the same!

Welcome to the world little man. I’m sure you’ll find some gorgeous things for him at Moment by Moment :)

I’m sure your friend is going to find you and absolute wealth of information and support.
It is amazing how many women have been faced with similar things - and often you don’t know until you start talking about it.
Wishing you friend all the best, and may their precious baby do well and be home with them quickly.
I’m sure you will find something very cute at MBM for him. Zoe

With my health issues I was given a 50/50 chance of making it to full term with a healthy, live baby with my last pregnancy and the odds alone were enough to scare the life out of me. Luckily I did go full term but reading the stories and ‘preparing’ myself was a huge eye opener. I commend all mums who have the strength to deal with such a huge ordeal.

Hope your friends baby comes along in leaps and bounds. I’m sure she’ll appreciate all of your help and advice.
