A night out with a younger crowd
July 27th, 2007
Last night I went to a 21st birthday for someone I work with at the bar. And it was, interesting.
While at 26 I am still a bit of a spring chicken myself, there I swear I was one of only a handful of people over the age of 22. And again was also just one of a handful of people who weren’t blind drunk on redbull vodkas and champagne and jumping all over each other!
Not that that is a bad thing - a couple of years ago you wouldn’t be able to distinguish me from the rest. But while I enjoyed being out, a warm doona on the couch watching the Thursday night crime shows was in the back of my mind.
At around 1am I made my exit back home to my warm comfy bed and my warm cuddly husband - sometimes it’s nice to be able to quote having to get up for the baby as a great excuse to have to go. But it was a good night - always good to get out isn’t it.
Happy 21st Gemma.

WOW great work on staying out till 1am - hehe I wouldn’t have lasted much past 10pm.
I recently went to a girl from works 21st and being on 23 I thought it would be great - boy how I learn that night how quickly having kids and a hubby make you grow up.
Glad your friend had a great birthday.
Here’s another one who wouldn’t have lasted past 10am! Sounds like you had a fun night and your friend had a great birthday.
Try being 40, what’s 10pm look like!
I completely relate. I’m about your age but I’m not really interested in partying much anymore. Its just not my thing.
DH was a nightclub bouncer for a few years (and only stopped 6 months ago) and it certainly made him realise he’d much rather be at home.
Old home bodies we’ve turned into lol.
I know exactly what you mean!
I am 28 now, mother and wife. I have always been a very social person and love, love, loved going out. I almost cringe now at some of the invites I get. I hate leaving the couch and am mortified at the thought of wearing anything but my jimjams after 9pm!
I loved my partying days, but now love nothing more than a warm couch, a good show, hubby and a bottle of red!
Funny how things change isn’t it? It sometimes nice to know that you wouldn’t change a thing though!
Funny how we think it would be nice to get out “like we used to”, only to find that really, that’s not what we would most like to do!
