A lovely Australia Day
January 27th, 2008
So how was everybody’s Australia Day?
We had a lovely Australia Day. Mainly relaxing and a little shopping in the morning, watching the tennis final early afternoon, then had a visit from our friends with their (newish) little baby, and then off to the Menai Australia Day celebrations where Charley got to meet Dora, pat an alligator and a snake, go on some rides, and capped the day off with some fireworks with much-loved cousins. A good day all round.
It was lovely catching up with Daria and Marty and little baby Kaia, who was born at 27 weeks, spent a long time in hospital and has only recently been allowed to visit people. It was a little weird to be around a little baby, especially since I am expecting one myself, but it was good to expose Charley to a little one, and once I was holding him, she wasn’t shy of him at all. So I am thinking that she will be really good with the new bub.
Then later that night we headed out to the fair, mainly to see the advertised Dora. It was all a little overwhelming for a tired Charley, not so much the kids, but the parents all pushing for a photo of their kids with Dora! I nearly decked one father who practically pushed Charley out of the way to get his kids in there!
There was also a great little reptile show, where Charley got to pat the alligator and the snake. It was really funny when it came to the alligator - she just picked up its tail and went "check out this tail!" No fear at all!
We were about to head home when we ran into Channie and Grant and Charley’s favourite cousins Jackson, Lachie and Tristan. So we decided to stay, and the kids enjoyed the rides and fairy floss and we stayed for the fireworks, which scared Charley a little, but the fact that it turned pitch black when her and Lachie had gone for a little run might have a bit to do with it!
A great Australia Day - hope everyone else had a good one too.
